Tornados Hit Western Mass June 1, 2011 Preparing for Spring! Unfortunately, many of our clients are experiencing severe damage to their homes due to the unusually brutal winter. Although we may have (keeping fingers crossed) seen the last of this years harsh weather, new concerns will soon arrive as we see rapid melting of this snow and ice. Flooding damage is NOT covered under your homeowner's policy, so please take special care to protect your home and personal property from this exposure. If you have personal property stored in your basement, move it to higher ground. Check your basement frequently for signs of water and look for any new stress cracks or damp spots on your foundation walls. Just as we have seen roof rakes fly off the shelves at local hardware stores, sump pumps and/or wet-dry vacs may just be the next big ticket item for spring. Also, by removing the snow and ice from around your foundation you may be able to avoid damage from rapid melting. If you are in a Flood Hazard Zone, you most likely have a flood policy in force. Flood Insurance can be purchased (and is sold at this agency) at preferred rates for those in non-hazard zones, but coverage is limited and is subject to a 30 day waiting period from the date of application.
